Cycle Rally to promote healthy heart



NEW YEAR CYCLE RALLY

School of Public Health, Post graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in Collaboration with State NCD control Program (CHHAP) and Chandigarh Amateur Cycling Association, Chandigarh organized New Year Cycle Rally on Sunday 25th Jan 2009 from PGIMER (Chuttani Block-B to Sukhna Lake) for promoting physical activity in Chandigarh which was attended by 90 persons.

The Cycle Rally was Flagged Off by S.K.Sharma, President, Environment Society of India. On this occasion participating industries from the project ‘‘Developing a Model for the Prevention of Non Communicable Diseases in an Industrial setting’’ along with Government High School, Sector 12, PGIMER and Nursing College, PGIMER actively participated in this event.

The cycle rally was followed by spectacular presentation from S.K. Sharma on how to maintain a healthy environment in Chandigarh, Dr JS Thakur, Associate Professor, School of Public health, Department of Community Medicine spoke on Lifestyle Diseases and importance of Physical Activity, Rakesh Mohindra, Secretary Chandigarh, Amateur Cycling Association spoke on Importance and benefits of cycling, Dr Puneet Bains, Project Officer, School of Public Health, PGIMER spoke on the importance of healthy workplace environment in Industrial setting, Dr Parveen, MPH student,PGIMER spoke on risk factors of non communicable diseases.

Refreshments were sponsored by Talwar Dairy and Healthy workplace project staff. It is worth while to mention here that every fourth Sunday cycle rally would be organized by all these partners to promote physical activity in Chandigarh.
